New Treatment for Advanced Prostate Cancer Approved

The FDA has approved Sanofi-Aventis’ Jevtana (cabazitaxel), a microtubule inhibitor, for use in combination with prednisone for the treatment of advanced, hormone-refractory prostate cancer that has worsened during or after treatment with docetaxel. In a single 755-patient study, the median survival rate for patients receiving the Jevtana regimen was 15.1 months versus 12.7 months for those who received the mitoxantrone/prednisone regimen.
