Injectable Osteoporosis Treatment for Postmenopausal Women Approved

The FDA has approved Amgen’s Prolia (denosumab) injection, a RANK ligand inhibitor, for the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture (defined as a history of osteoporotic fracture or multiple risk factors for fracture). The medication was approved with a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) that includes a Medication Guide for patients and information for health care providers that explains the risks and benefits.
