Additional Botox Indication Approved
3/11/2010
The FDA has approved Allergan’s Botox (onabotulinumtoxin A) to treat spasticity in the flexor muscles of the elbow, wrist, and fingers in adults, a condition commonly occurring after stroke, traumatic brain injury, or the progression of multiple sclerosis. Botox temporarily blocks connections between nerves and muscles, causing temporary spastic muscle paralysis. Treatment of spasticity with Botox is not a substitute for physical therapy or other rehabilitative care. Botox is also indicated for reducing the severity of abnormal head position and neck pain associated with neck problems, to reduce armpit sweating that does not respond to treatment with other medicines, to treat certain focusing problems and eye spasms, and for other conditions as determined by a health care provider.
