Dupuytren Contracture Treatment Approved

2/4/2010
The FDA has approved Auxilium Pharmaceuticals’ Xiaflex (collagenase Clostridium histolyticum) for the treatment of Dupuytren contracture, a progressive hand disease that affects straightening and proper use of the fingers. Xiaflex is a biologic drug that works by breaking down excessive collagen buildup in the hand. It is injected directly into the collagen cord of the hand and should be administered only by a health care professional experienced with hand injections because tendon ruptures may occur.
